A few years back, I had to prepare an assignment for my graduate class “Integrating Technology into Early Childhood Curriculum” that involved video creation. At the time of the assignment, most of the available options were paid or not as intuitive as the products we have nowadays. So, years later, I stumbled upon Content Samurai and loved it. When I found out I could create powerful videos for my books with this tool, I never looked back.
I first learned about Content Samurai as a subscriber of Nobel Samurai—software for Google Search Keyword—part of the Samurai’s line of products (which is a subject for another post).
Apparently, catching up with the recent video trend (YouTube, Snapchat, Facebook Live, Instagram), the developers came up with a clever and invaluable tool that allows users to create their videos in the blink of an eye.
What is Content Samurai?
Content Samurai is web tool for video creation. The entire process is seamless, and the software guides you through five simple steps. Whether it is for uploading on your YouTube channel, Snapchat, or your own website, Content Samurai allows the production of high-quality videos in a short period of time.
Why use Content Samurai?
If I had known about Content Samurai at the time of my assignment, I would have saved time and avoided frustration. I ended up using Movie Maker, a free video editor by Microsoft. While the video-creation experience was fun, there was a learning curve for the tool, and editing was painful. If you are not a video editor, you know well what I’m talking about.
In the beginning, I just wanted to make easy-to-create videos for my YouTube channel, including education-related materials. But once I started to understand how book trailers can be extremely effective as an author’s marketing strategy, I jumped into action and started creating videos for my books.
As an added bonus, I also realized that videos were valuable tools for ranking on search engines. Content Samurai’s videos can work as a powerful SEO machine. In the end, I was getting a lot of value.
I’m sure if you are a vlogger or YouTuber, it will be a piece of cake for you. Not only that, but you will have a gold mine. You never know when your videos will go viral, right?
That is the reason I decided to write this post. My recently released children’s title, Giggly Bear’s Fun Trip in the Yellow Bus, was in need of a book trailer. So, while creating the video, I took the task of showing step-by-step how you can use Content Samurai to create your own videos. I hope you enjoy.
Content Samurai Step by step
Like me, if you are not a videographer, or if you are in search of the easiest and fastest way to create videos—authors who use book trailers for their promotional efforts or YouTube enthusiasts—Content Samurai is your tool.
As a matter of fact, there is a seven-day free trial for those who want to test it out. You should check it out.
Step 1: “Script”
This is where you start. You have this area where you can write or copy and paste the text for the video. Once you have your text in the script area, Content Samurai reads your scripts and breaks it into sentences or paragraphs (your choice) to create slides.
Step 2: “Slide”
In this area, you can customize your video the way you want. You can choose from 50 beautiful themes or create your own.
You can also download a plethora of Creative Commons images to use or upload yours. Content Samurai selects a few keywords based on your text, making the process of searching for images painless.
You also have the ability to choose the layout—such as images on the right side, left side, or on the entire slide. Likewise, you can also choose how to position the text.
Step 3: “Voice”
Once you are happy with your images and text on the slides, you move over to “voice track options.”
This a pretty neat feature because you have three options to choose from: you can select “music only,” “record your own voice track”, or you can “upload a voice track” If you have previously recorded your audio somewhere else or count on the help of a voice-over artist, that is where you’d go.
If you don’t make a selection, by default the video will be set for “music only.”
Once you made your choice, you can preview your video.
Step 4: “Preview”
If you choose to go with music only, like in my case, this is where you can select your music, upload, and adjust the timing for each slide.
If you decide to record your own voice, this is what you get. The process is straightforward. You just press the green Record button, and when you are done, you preview it. If you don’t like what you get, you can override and record again.
Step 5: “Download”
This is where you generate and download your video. The great part is that at the end, you will find attributions to all the images used through Content Samurai, like the example below.**
If at the end of your creation, you realize you need to make adjustments, edit a slide, or include any information you previously missed, you can always go back and edit.
Your video is saved on your Content Samurai database, so making changes is easy as pie. Once you’re happy with what you accomplished, you upload your video anywhere you want. You can find mine on my YouTube channel.
Next time you are searching for an effortless, no-nonsense tool to create your videos, give Content Samurai a try. The worse that can happen is you spend 15–20 minutes of your time to create a beautiful video to share with family and friends.
And who knows? You might get excited and realized that video creation is your thing.
