For a while, I have been collecting resources and selecting some websites that I believe are full of invaluable information for families, writers, and anyone in search of educational resources. Writing Tools, Courses & Websites
Grammarly – a free writing tool that offers grammar checker, spell checker, proofreading, and plagiarism tracking.
ProWritingAid – a writing software used by bloggers, writers, academics, and business professionals aimed at improving readability, sentence structure, and correct grammar. It prevents plagiarism, and it’s free to use. However, the premium version ($40) has more functionality, including online editing.
Hemingway Editor – a paid app ($9.99) that proofreads one’s manuscript and suggests improvements for better writing.
Scrivener – a powerful writing tool; a favorite of authors, screenwriters, songwriters, and other writers. Scrivener offers advanced functionality, including a series of tools that allow writers to structure their manuscript, save research, format, and upload for publishing.
Learn Scrivener Fast – divided into five sections and 12 easy modules. This is a comprehensive course on Scrivener endorsed by powerhouses such as Michael Hyatt, Joanna Penn, Jeff Goins, Joel Friedlander, and others.
K-Money Mastery – a powerful marketing tool for writers; 21 video lessons with bonus and downloadable PDFs which teach step-by-step how to publish (and make money) with Kindle.
Easy Course Creation – Joseph Michael, aka The Scrivener Coach, teaches how to create a course from scratch even if you don’t have any experience. Joseph is the founder of the successful Learn Scrivener Fast course ( for lovers of Scrivener, this is a must-take).
Andilit.com – author, coach, and editor Andi Cumbo-Floyd guides a vibrant writing community. If you are serious about writing, I strongly recommend you join her Facebook group, where you will learn everything about the writing craft. You can find more information on how to join on her website.
Joan Dempsey – if you want to learn or get better with your revisions, you could not be in better hands. Joan Dempsey offers a myriad of resources and will guide you step-by-step to improve your revising skills.
Jane Friedman – a go-to site if you want to learn everything about publishing.
The Book Designer – led by Joel Friedlander, this an excellent source of information for self-publishing and book marketing.
Harshman Services – when it comes to editing, freelance editor, Jennifer Harshman knows how to tame the dragon. With many years of experience and a variety of book genres edited on her belt, she also offers writing coach, book reviews, and writer’s workshop online.
Fastweb – a comprehensive scholarship database which also offers financial aid, student planning, career advice, and educators’ resources.
ScholarshipOwl – a scholarship database service where applicants are matched with numerous scholarships through a single application.
Scholarships.com – another through scholarship database where one can search for all types of scholarships. Places a strong focus on college scholarships and financial aid.
Course Hero – a platform that allows students to find (and exchange) educational resources on specific courses/subjects while getting access to tutors and supplemental materials.
Early Childhood & Family
PBS Kids – focus is on parenting resources, programs, and activities for children.
Sprout – offers shows, programs, and activities for young children 2–6 years old.
Common Sense Media – non-profit organization that reviews and rates overall media (movies, TV shows, apps, games) to aid families, educators, and policymakers in their decisions.
The Dove Foundation – non-profit organization that advocates for families while providing movie reviews based on Judeo-Christian values.
Plugged In – follows a biblical approach to provide reviews, articles, and discussion on the world of entertainment and pop culture.
Parent Previews – parents are the focus of this site, which aims at providing reviews and articles on movies (G, PG, PG-13) and other media that best fit their values.
Kids in Mind – a comprehensive review of movies to guide parents and caretakers in finding appropriate content for their children.
Reach Out and Read – a program implemented by medical professionals aim at building early reading skills and literacy in children. The program runs in approximately 5,000 sites in all US states.
